In Myopia or short sightedness, the common cause is the length of the eyeball being more than normal. It may also be due to abnormal thickness of lens and other conditions. It is a very common condition in school children. Excessive near work has also been implicated as one of the important risk factors for development of Myopia. The condition is treated by prescription of glasses. The other options include contact lenses, surgery. As the condition is frequently subject to change with time, it is advisable to have frequent check-ups once in every 4 months.
