Keratoconus is a progressive thinning disorder in which the patients have progressive bending of the cornea making it steeper and thinner. The patients present with symptoms of distorted and hazy vision. But the spectacle correction does not restore the vision as expected. The patients need special investigations such as ORBSCAN / PENTACAM to measure the thickness of the cornea as well as specific areas of thinning.

The cause is unknown in many patients but frequent rubbing of the eyes from allergy has been associated with the development of the disease. At the early stage, the vision is restored by special contact lenses. As the disease progresses, the patient will need surgery to prevent further damage such as Collagen cross linking procedure or corneal transplantation in advanced stage.
